The mission of USDS is to support and develop deaf swimming in the United States.
Goals and objectives of USDS projects:
-
Fundraising; we are contacting as many organizations as possible so that the expense of participating in high level meets, such as WDSC, does not prevent athletes from competing for their country; Athletes will publicize their involvement in local communities; as an organization, we will contact national media. Our specific goal is to raise $72,000. Our long term goal is to develop sustaining sponsorship relationships that will carry over to our ongoing programs and to the 2009 Deaflympics.
-
Website; include comprehensive details about the current national team and World Deaf swimming championships; organize and allow easy access to information so that USDeafswimming.org is THE place to go for information on all aspects of deaf swimming; provide links to make donating easy for supporters, thank and publicize donors according to their needs and wishes.
-
Discussion group; have every deaf swimmer, their coaches and parents join so that they will receive updated information in an expeditious way.
-
The database will allow us to evaluate our impact on deaf swimming as well, organize specific information, and track swimmers' progress in the sport.
-
The link of the USA swimming website publicizes our organization and facilitates people being able to contact us.
-
The logistic committee is solving the problems of international travel so that athletes can focus on training. It also provides us an opportunity to learn how to best plan for the 2009 Deaflympics, to be held in the same city.
-
Coaching consultation via email and training camp prior to the WDSC will ensure that athletes arrive in shape and ready to compete against the peak athletes from 30 other nations and will represent the United States with honor.
