Selection of Athletes for International Competition

Selection Procedures

USDS shall develop athlete selection procedures based on models provided by USA Swimming for each international competition in which USDS athletes will participate. Athletes intending to compete for a slot on the national team MUST participate in the national trials event.

Announcement

USDS shall announce athlete selection procedures two years prior to the Deaflympics Games, and six months prior to other international events.

Selection Committee:

The athlete selection committee shall consist of:

The Director;
Swimming Manager;
Head and any assistant coaches; and
A former Deaflympic athlete

Submittal of Athlete Selection

USDS shall recommend to USADSF the athletes chosen to be on the US Team based on selection procedures developed.

Recording of Athlete Criteria

USDS shall keep on file the athlete criteria for each international competition.

Selection of Coaches

Selection Procedures

USDS may select and appoint coaches to fulfill its stated purpose. Such coaches may be selected and appointed by majority vote of the appointed selection committee, subject to the requirements below.

Requirements

Prior to the selection and appointment of a coach, the candidate must;

Complete the USDS Trip List Requirements application and submit it to the Swimming Manager;
Consent to a series of at least one (1) interviews with the selection committee;
Demonstrate that he is an accredited coach with USA Swimming, Inc.
Display basic finger spelling or other sign language ability in order to communicate with team members.
The Executive Board may at any time remove and replace a coach without cause, subject to the rights afforded to the coach.
